The following words were written on the tomb of an Anglican Bishop in the Cyrpts of Westminister Abbey:
When I was young and free and my imagination had no limits, I dreamed of changing the world. As I grew older and wiser, I discovered the world would not change, so I shortened my sights some-what and decided to change only my country.
But, it, too, seemed immovable.
As I grew into my twilights years, in one last desperate attempt, I settled for changing only my family, those closet to me, but alas, they would have none of it.
And now as I lie on my deathbed, I suddenly realize :if I had only changed my self first, then by example I would have changed my family.
From their inspiration and encouragement, I would then have been able to better my country and, who knows, I may have been changed the world.
Many of us young people have such big and mighty dreams to change not just our country but the world at large (that’s not bad at all), but it doesn’t work so easily if you have not devoted time to working on yourself first. An old Indian proverb says, ‘’Be the change you wish to see’’
When God calls a man, He does not send that man first; He makes that man first so as to ensure effectiveness in the purpose of his calling.
Your being in a higher institution, member of any group or fellowship is part of this this preparation, don’t take it for granted!
A young man meet me after talking in a youth conference, he was telling me about his big dreams; how he wished to be the most successful man on earth. He wanted me to pray for him so that he can achieve these dreams. I asked him a question he was unable to answer:
‘’What have you done or what are you doing to make this dreams come true?”
Beloved, You CANNOT give what you don’t have!
Today is an opportunity for you have a rethink. You need JESUS to give you illumination and strength to attain excellence! Little wonder why the Scriptures say: “But they that wait upon the lord LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and shall not weary; and they shall walk, and not faint” (Isaiah 41:3)
